GRADUATES

At Matalan we know that not everyone follows the same path. That’s why, rather than offer a traditional graduate scheme, we recruit graduates all year round so you can apply when it suits you, rather than the other way around.

We have a wide variety of roles for graduates across areas of the business including Buying, Merchandising, Finance, eCommerce and People. One of our most popular entry-level pathways is through our Finance team, where we fully fund the CIMA qualification so our graduates can become qualified Chartered Management Accountants. Our graduate accountants are enrolled on the Accounting/Taxation Professional Level 7 if eligible – or the AAT Level 4 if not, both delivered by our training partner Kaplan.

For our Trainee/Graduate Accountant, they are enrolled on the Accounting/Taxation Professional Level 7, if eligible, or the AAT Level 4 if not – both delivered by Kaplan.

I joined Matalan as a Trainee Assistant Buyer in summer 2023. Community- this is something I love about my job; the people truly do create a great atmosphere to work in throughout the highs and lows of this fast-paced industry. The advice I would give to anyone looking for a graduate role is to be proactive, enthusiastic and a team player- a vital value here at Matalan.

I applied for the grad role at Matalan as I knew I wanted to work in the retail finance sector and Matalan was a well established and growing business who had held a consistent spot in the sector for many years. Also Matalan offers a great study support scheme which was a must have as I wanted to work towards a chartered accountant qualification! To any grads looking for their next role, my main advice would be to do your research! Know the company you are applying for and be clear on what you want to gain from your graduate role.
